Existing as a studio from 2024 to 2026, Opus Dance Movement was a pre-professional performing arts collective and program I co-created and co-directed. Now operating as a much more auxiliary 1:1 artist program, the entity created community and a space for young artists to train and experience the professional arts and entertainment world.

Methodology behind the program

pre-Opus (2024)

Opus began with a simple observation: there was often a wide gap between how young dancers trained and what was expected of them once they entered the professional world. Our area was rich with competitive dance opportunities, but access to professional knowledge, experiences, and networks was much harder to find.

We wanted to help close that gap. Opus was designed as a small, intentional program where young artists could strengthen their craft while also gaining exposure to the expectations, language, and creative processes of the professional industry.

Our background in marketing, design, and media production gave us another advantage. Before the studio fully launched, we built the brand strategically, using visual storytelling and a gradual reveal to create curiosity around what Opus would become.

Full studio operation stage

 (2024-2026)

Once Opus became a full operation, we were able to build a more complete expression of the brand and its values: originality, purpose, uniqueness, and storytelling.

The program extended beyond technical dance training to include acting, vocal work, performance development, and creative collaboration. Students were also given opportunities to contribute ideas for social media, content concepts, and creative shoots, giving them meaningful input into how the organization represented itself.

Some of those ideas became successful marketing content for Opus. More importantly, the process taught students how to develop an idea, communicate it, consider an audience, collaborate with a creative team, and recognize what makes a concept effective. Rather than treating them simply as the subjects of our marketing, we gave them opportunities to participate in creating it.

The pre-existing plan of Opus and the pivot to its future.

While we ultimately decided not to continue Opus in a traditional studio format, we are incredibly proud of what we were able to build and how closely so much of that work aligned with the original business plan you can see below.

Along the way, we also learned something important about ourselves and the work we wanted to continue doing. Our greatest strength was not simply running a studio. It was the one-to-one mentorship, creative development, and relationships we were able to build with young artists.

As we continue growing our own careers in dance, marketing, and creative direction, the work of Opus continues with us. Today, we are carrying its mission forward in a smaller and more intimate format, working directly with young artists to help them develop their voices, strengthen their craft, explore their ideas, and begin building the futures they imagine for themselves.
